CHESS FOR BAHAMIAN SCHOOLS

Give school chess a clear teaching plan.

A school chess programme needs more than a place to play games. Teachers need to know what comes next, what students were asked to do and where extra help is needed. Chess242 provides a shared teaching workspace for that day-to-day work.

Set up a school workspace
01

Organise classes around how you actually teach

Create a class for a group that follows the same learning plan. Add learners through an invitation or class code and let the account holder approve enrollment. Use classroom nicknames that make sense to the teaching team without publishing a student roster on the school’s public page.

A school can add coaches or teachers to its team instead of making each person buy a separate teaching subscription. Staff share the school’s teaching resources within its plan allowance. The workspace owner manages team access, billing and branding.

02

Build a curriculum with a reason for each step

Start by deciding what students should be able to do at the end of a unit. For beginners, that might be recognising check and answering it legally. Choose lessons and teaching boards that support the goal, then put them in a sequence the class can follow.

Teaching packs offer a starting structure, but they are not a substitute for judging the class. Preview activities, customise the sequence and publish it when ready. Completed learning stays recorded, so an edit should help the next lesson without requiring students to repeat everything.

Put it into practice

  1. Choose one outcome for the unit.
  2. Select and preview the relevant lessons.
  3. Add a practice board or discussion question.
  4. Publish the class sequence.
  5. Use submissions and observed play to plan the next session.
03

Set homework that shows how students think

A multiple-choice question can check whether a student recognises a rule. A written response can ask why a move is safe. A chess task asks for a move from a position, and an assigned lesson provides guided practice. Combine these formats instead of relying only on a completed/not-completed checklist.

Assign work to the whole class or selected learners, set an optional due date and review submitted answers. Objective tasks can be marked automatically; written work needs teacher judgment. Leave feedback or return an attempt when a learner needs another try. Individual learning plans target one enrolled learner.

04

Plan the meeting and keep the accounts distinct

Scheduled sessions can be live lessons with video and audio, or sessions without video. The scheduled time and any family note help learners know what is expected. For an in-person school session, explain the meeting location in the note; the video option is not required.

School access covers assigned teaching content. A learner’s personal games and Free account remain separate, and optional Individual or Family upgrades are purchased separately. This prevents a school invitation from becoming an unexpected personal payment requirement.

Before you start

Can the school invite an outside coach?

Yes. The workspace owner can invite coaches into the shared teaching team, subject to the plan’s staff allowance.

Does the public school page show student names or answers?

No. Public branding pages are separate from the authenticated classroom and do not publish student rosters or submissions.
