TOOLS FOR CHESS COACHES
Spend less time organising. Teach with a plan.
A useful coaching workspace connects preparation to what a student actually does. Start with a lesson goal, choose the material, teach the session and use the learner’s response to decide what comes next. Chess242 keeps those parts together.
Open the teaching workspacePrepare a lesson you can see before teaching it
Browse the teaching library, preview a lesson or board and build an ordered sequence for a class. A prepared pack can save setup time, but you can customise its contents rather than treating it as a fixed script. Keep the goal visible: what decision should the learner be able to make after the lesson?
Use a position with a clear teaching purpose. For a lesson on defending pieces, ask students to identify the threat before showing the answer. For a lesson on calculation, compare two candidate moves and the opponent’s strongest reply.
Use individual learning plans for enrolled students
A student learning plan is a set of goals and tasks for one learner in a class. It is not an Individual paid membership and it should not be built by editing the coach’s family profiles. Select the class and the enrolled learner, then assign the work they need.
A plan can combine a guided lesson, a chess position and a written explanation. That combination helps distinguish “recognised the right move” from “understands why it works.” Review the submitted work, leave feedback and return an attempt when more explanation is needed.
Create homework beyond a list of lessons
Choose single-answer or multiple-answer questions, short or extended written responses, a chess-move task, or an assigned lesson. Set the points for each item, choose the audience and add an optional due date. Save a draft while preparing and preview the learner view before publishing.
Learners can save their answers before submitting. Objective items are checked on the server, while written responses remain for coach review. Once students have begun, duplicate an assignment to change its questions or recipients so that existing answers are not judged against a moving target.
Put it into practice
- Write a clear prompt.
- Choose the format that demonstrates the skill.
- Check the answer key or legal chess position.
- Preview the assignment.
- Publish, review and respond.
Work alongside schools and clubs
A school or club owner can invite a coach into its teaching team. Included staff use the organisation’s shared resources and class workspace within its plan limits. That makes it possible to teach together without copying learner accounts between people.
Keep teaching and personal use clear. A coach subscription pays for teaching tools and student seats; a personal membership covers the coach’s own independent learning benefits. Students receive assigned classroom access and retain Free personal privileges, with optional personal upgrades separate from the class.
Before you start
Is a student learning plan a paid subscription?
No. It is an individual teaching plan for an enrolled learner. Individual and Family memberships are separate personal subscription products.
Can homework be completed without a live video lesson?
Yes. Homework is available through the learner’s classroom. A scheduled session can use live video or be set without video.
